At the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards, 2008, Mad Men was the most nominated drama show and in overall nominations it stood third with sixteen nominations trailing 30 Rock, the NBC comedy with seventeen nominations and John Adams, the HBO mini series which was nominated for twenty three categories.
Along with the FX drama Damages, which was nominated at the same time, Mad Men has achieved the distinction of the first basic cable series to be ever nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, and also winning the same.
